The principle of a trickle filter is very simple. The pre-filtered water is pumped into the upper part of the filter where a distribution device is located. This device consists of perforated tubes that project the water uniformly into the upper tank. The water then flows towards the lower tanks: in this way the biological supports harbouring the bacteria are constantly watered, which allows a higher filtration efficiency than other systems, thanks to a very good oxygenation.
This filter is sold empty: it is therefore necessary to provide enough to fill it. The media most used in this type of filter is ceramics (Crystal Bio, Bacteria Home and Pumice Stone etc.)
